Job Description

The New York City Center for Media Education at Manhattan Neighborhood Network (MNN) seeks experienced and working creatives to teach a variety of media production workshops at our Midtown West and East Harlem facilities. Workshops include Video Editing (Adobe Premiere, DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut), narrative & documentary production, television studio production, motion and digital graphic design (Adobe Creative Suite &/or Blackmagic’s DaVinci Resolve) and podcast development and production.

Media Instructors report to MNN’s Manager of Media Education. 

Job Responsibilities 

  • Prepares class materials
  • Follows detailed lesson plans 
  • Provides instruction for in-person classes of up to twelve adults
  • Provides instruction for online classes, workshops, or webinars of up to 50 adults 
  • Provides instruction for in-person or online youth classes as assigned
  • Meets regularly with the Manager of Media Education to review curriculum and submit feedback on classes
  • Meets as needed with the Manager of Media Education to discuss performance and new initiatives 

Required Education and Experience

  • 4 + years experience in media or related field
  • Minimum 2 years teaching experience
  • Expertise in field narrative and documentary production with digital video cameras
  • Demonstrated skills in a variety of production roles
  • Actively working in a creative or technical media production project preferred 
  • Must be highly organized and detail oriented
  • Expertise with DaVinci Resolve; DaVinci certified trainers strongly preferred
  • Expertise with Adobe Creative Cloud; Adobe certified instructors preferred
  • Experience working with a diverse public with varying levels of technical skill
  • Experience teaching in-studio video production and post-production preferred
  • Experience developing, producing, or editing podcasts
  • Experience with 3D programs (e.g. Blender, Maya, Cinema 4D)  
  • Experience with Visual Effects programs (e.g. Nuke, Houdini, After Effects, DaVinci Fusion) a plus
  • Experience with Emerging Media Technologies (e.g. UnReal Engine, Virtual Reality, Virtual Production, 360 Video) a plus
  • Bilingual Spanish a plus

Compensation & Schedule

  • Flexible part-time position & schedule 
  • $40 to $50 per hour depending on experience
  • Classes are offered mornings and evenings during the week & weekends
  • Classes are one to three hours long  and may run one to six sessions
  • Instructors are paid for class time plus one hour of preparation per class session
  • Instructors will be offered a schedule of classes for a three to six month period based on their availability
